A long day

We're finally in Austin! Yesterday we drove from Branson, MO through Arkansas and Oklahoma (including passing through Checotah, home of Carrie Underwood) before hitting Texas and the crazy Dallas traffic. Some good scenery but it was a long day...

Branson, MO
Beaver Reservoir, AK
Checotah, OK
Kiowa, OK
Wardville, OK
Caddo, OK
Red River - Cartwright, TX

Dallas, TX

At about 40 miles from Jackie and Jason's house, the engine light came on with a message, "Engine Power Reduced." After calling the Hertz Roadside Assistance number, the operator said the car could stop working at any time so she recommended we pull over. Not wanting to risk being stuck on the highway, we pulled over in Jarrell, TX at a Shell and waited for the tow truck take us to the Austin Airport.

2 hours later we had a new SUV and moved all our stuff over. Here's hoping this Chevy Equinox with TX plates lasts us until we get to CA!

I know this is only the first of many unforeseen "things" to happen on our journey...we are learning to roll with it!

  2. LOL - I didn't even know who Yakoff Smirnoff was until Paul told me! And the Roadhouse bar - you're right, I should have at least posted the picture of their marquee. I'll include some more pics I also forgot to post from Chicago in a post of random pics from the first week!
