Cairns

On February 28 we flew to Cairns, a popular town where many people stay to visit the Great Barrier Reef.

Flying into Cairns

We were hoping for decent weather since we had plans to lounge around and scuba dive the Great Barrier Reef. But we weren't so lucky as it was humid, hot, and sticky when we arrived...followed by rain and thunderstorms. Although the accommodations at this hostel, The Serpent, were better than The Funk House (it had AC and a bathroom in our room), I still wouldn't recommend this place. The room smelled of mildew and the shower curtain in our bathroom had black mold. I blame the cough I have now from the mold and mildew we probably subjected ourselves to.

But I digress...the next day, March 1, we walked the 3km to town in the muggy, hot weather and booked our tours for the next couple days. It was too hot to take pictures but I got a couple in...
